R12CC is collaborating with the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) as they enact the State Board of Education’s mission to “prepare Kansas students for lifelong success through rigorous, quality academic instruction, career training, and character development according to each student’s gifts and talents.” To prepare Kansas students for postsecondary education and the workforce, efforts are focused on boosting high school graduation rates by reducing the five-year superintendent turnover rate and establishing a new pathway to teaching.

Capacity building services will enable KSDE to engage in continuous improvement of accreditation processes and create a statewide leadership development framework. R12CC is also working with KSDE to evaluate and scale the newly implemented registered teacher apprenticeship program, as well as supporting the agency’s work in equity, inclusion, and belonging for SEA staff. In addition, through an executive leadership forum, R12CC is helping superintendents to address common concerns and critical questions relating to leadership, curriculum and assessment, instructional changes, and planning and constituency building.

As a result of this intensive technical assistance, stakeholders will deepen their understanding of leadership competencies required to meet state goals and the technical and adaptive challenges related to navigating education policy changes, as well as build capacity for continuous improvement at the state and local levels.
